Marker Lights
Marker Lights indicate the length of a trailer and its direction of travel. They are usually mounted near the front and rear of a vehicle. Marker lights are typically amber in the front and red in the rear.
Marker Lights vs Clearance Lights
Both marker lights and clearance lights serve important safety functions on trailers, but they have distinct purposes and placements:
Marker Lights:
- Indicate the presence and outline of the trailer.
- Placed along the sides and rear.
- Typically amber or red.
- Help other drivers see the trailer’s dimensions and avoid collisions.
Clearance Lights:
- Specifically highlight the width and height of the trailer.
- Mounted on the top edges and corners.
- Usually amber in the front and red in the rear.
- Ensure that the trailer’s boundaries are visible, especially in low-light conditions.
While both types of lights aim to increase visibility and safety, marker lights provide a general outline, whereas clearance lights specifically denote the trailer’s clearance dimensions.
