Fifth Wheel Height
1 Fifth Wheel Height is the distance from the ground to the top of the fifth wheel when it is level and parallel with the ground. The standard, most common fifth-wheel height for a tractor is approximately 47 to 48 inches from the ground to the top of the fifth-wheel hitch plate. This height ensures proper trailer leveling and allows for enough articulation between the tractor and trailer for safe operation.
2 Can also refer to the height from the tractor frame to the top of the fifth wheel. The latter definition applies to data given in fifth wheel literature.
