If you want to maintain an organized toolchest, it helps to plan ahead. Go ahead and assume that you will always be adding to your tool collection. You should also assume that some tools will be lost, or broken. These changes in tool inventory can interfere with your original storage design.

To ensure that our socket storage can accommodate future changes, we are using the Magrail line of magnetic rails from VIM Tools. Used with VIM Tools’ T Bolt & Stud attachments, these magnetic organizers securely store any size socket (1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″).  As we gain or lose sockets, the studs can be repositioned to fit our current inventory. In other words, no loose sockets rolling around in the drawer.
