After months of researching tool chests (online, in store, and within our own trailer repair shops), I selected the U.S. General 44 in Double Bank Roller Cabinet (Series 2) from Harbor Freight as the cornerstone of our Trailer Technician Tool Set Build.
Deciding Factors
Solid Build
The welded steel construction, smooth ball bearing drawer slides, heavy-duty 5″ casters, and industrial powder coated finish, should ensure that this box is able to handle life in a trailer repair shop.
Budget Friendly

Expandable
The more tools you acquire, the more tools you want… I mean… need. One of the great things about the U.S. General lineup is that you can easily add more storage space as your tool inventory grows. As you can see in the following photo, we’ve already added additional components (26″ Single Bank Top Chest, and 30″ 5 Drawer Mechanics Cart).

To my knowledge, I’ve never been described as flashy. The color I chose for our box isn’t going to change that. But don’t worry… for those of you that are a little more adventurous, the U.S. General 44 in Double Bank Roller Cabinet and related components are available in multiple colors.
