Historical Highlights

1886

Founded by George B. DeArment, a blacksmith from Evansburg, PA, as the Champion Bolt & Clipper Company. The company initially produced farrier’s tools.

1904

Company moves to Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Product line is expanded to include nippers, pinchers, and open-end wrenches.

1910s

Product line is expanded to include hammers.

1923

Company moves to South Main Street location in Meadville.

1927

Name is changed to Champion-DeArment Tool Company.

1933

Chief Engineer, Howard Manning, develops the concept of multi-position, tongue and groove, slip-joint style pliers. The pliers were named “Channellock.”

1935

“Channellock” receives patent and trademark protection.

1963

The company name is changed to CHANNELLOCK.
