Carrier Transicold Announces Commercial Launch of New Vector HE 19 with Low-GWP Refrigerant at IAA Transportation 2024
France, RUEIL-MALMAISON – Sep. 16, 2024
Sept. 17-22, 2024 – Hall 27, Stand E35
(Trailer Technician) – Carrier Transicold has announced the commercial launch of a new version of its Vector® HE 19 unit at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover, Germany. Featuring a new refrigerant with low global warming potential (GWP) and compatible with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel or B100 biofuel, this refrigeration solution for semi-trailers has been designed to significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while maintaining exceptional performance. Carrier Transicold is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
The Vector HE 19 uses a low-GWP refrigerant, reducing CO2 emissions by 9 times in comparison with the standard R452A refrigerant. The unit is also compatible with HVO biofuel, which reduces carbon emissions by 80% compared with a regular diesel-powered unit. In combination, the result is a minimum total reduction of 84% in CO2 emissions over a one-year period.
The B100 biofuel, typically derived from recycled vegetable oils, animal fats or cooking oils, alone reduces the carbon emissions by between 60% and 91%, depending on the type of B100 used, compared with a standard diesel unit. Combined with the low-GWP refrigerant, the system can deliver a total minimum reduction of 73% in CO2 emissions over a year of use.
The first semi-trailer equipped with the Vector HE 19 went into operation in June for FRAIKIN and Martin Brower, two long-standing Carrier Transicold customers, to assess its effectiveness in real-world conditions. Based at one of Martin Brower’s logistics platforms in France, the semi-trailer makes deliveries of fresh and frozen foods for a major fast-food brand in France.
“We use this semi-trailer daily with great satisfaction,” said Pascal Gloaguen, Managing Director, Martin Brower France. “The opportunity to be able to supply the Carrier refrigeration unit with a new low global warming potential refrigerant that is B100 compatible enables us to develop new sources of CO2 emissions reduction to reach the -50% target that Martin Brower has set for 2030.”
“Sustainability and environmental responsibility are at the core of our innovation projects,” said Victor Calvo, Vice President & General Manager, Truck Trailer International, Carrier Transicold. “The Vector HE 19 represents a significant advancement in helping the transport sector achieve its decarbonization goals. We are proud to see that these in-depth tests with FRAIKIN and Martin Brower demonstrate the reliability of this new solution, positioning Carrier as a benchmark for CO2-reducing innovation in the industry.”
