Organizing 1 Inch Drive Sockets
There are plenty of good products available to keep your sockets organized… as long as those sockets are 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, or 3/4″ drive. But if you want to organize your 1 inch drive sockets, you might be surprised by the lack of available options.
Searching for 1 Inch Drive Socket Rails
A few months ago I began searching for rails (or trays) to organize the 1 inch drive sockets we use with the Milwaukee 1″ Cordless Impact. None of the tool stores I visited were able to help. My online searches came up with nothing. And all the Technicians I talked with keep their 1″ sockets loose, in their socket drawer.
Eventually, I posted a question in a tool-oriented Facebook group asking where I can find 1 inch drive socket organizers. One of the responses suggested that I check out VIM Tools. (Thanks to Jim E for the assist!)
Solution Found: VIM Tools Magrails
Magnetic Rail Organizers for all Socket Sizes (1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ Drive)
What I found at VIM Tools was their line of Magrail Magnetic Rails and Socket Studs. The rails, when equipped with the correct size studs, will securely hold sockets of any drive size (1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″). See Installation Video
Not Just For Sockets
Magrails are capable of helping you organize much more that sockets. VIM offers various attachments that allow Magrails to be used with drill bits, bits, shanks, small parts, cans, and more.
What’s Next
At the time of this article, our first two Magrails have only been in use for a few days. I get it… that isn’t really enough time for a thorough review. But in all honesty, I was so excited to have finally found a storage solution for 1 inch drive sockets, I just had to tell someone!
Visiting VIM Tools has given me some new ideas on ways to organize our Trailer Technician Tool Set Build. So I’m sure you’ll see some more of their products in our build. Of course, we’ll also continue to provide updates on how the Magrails are working with our 1″ drive sockets. Stay tuned…
