How Many Lug Nuts Per Single Battery Charge

It’s been about a month since the Milwaukee 1″ Cordless Impact made its debut at our trailer shop. As expected, the Technicians love not being limited by an air hose. This is especially true during tire changes that are performed in the yard and offsite. We’ve also been impressed with the nut breaking power of the impact. So far, it’s proven to be just as powerful as our pneumatic impacts.

We’ll be making frequent updates about our experience with the Milwaukee Impact. That being said, I wanted to begin addressing the most common question we’ve encountered since publishing our Initial Thoughts article:

How many lug nuts can the Milwaukee Impact remove & install on a single battery charge?

The Lug nuts shown in the above image represent the quantity removed and installed during testing (70). These lug nuts are in new condition and do not accurately represent the poor condition of the lug nuts that were encountered during actual tire changes..

Lug Nuts per Battery Charge

Based on the feedback we’ve received, Technicians want to know what they can expect from a single battery charge. We’ll be performing multiple tests to answer that question. But for those of you that are eager to take the Milwaukee Cordless Impact plunge, I want to provide some initial battery runtime test results.

Milwaukee 1″ Impact Battery Runtime Test #1

Battery Used: Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM™ HIGH OUTPUT™ HD12.0 Battery

Runtime Estimate per Manufacturer: Remove & Install up to 120 Lug Nuts on a single HIGH OUTPUT™ HD12.0Ah battery

Battery Charge at Beginning of Test: 4 Bars (Fully Charged)

Battery Charge at End of Test: 1 Bar

Tool Settings:

Mode: 4 (Max Speed: 1,200 RPM, Bolt Removal: 1,200 RPM)

Worklight Duration: 15 seconds

Results:

Lug Nuts Off: 70

Lug Nuts On: 70

Test Notes:

Although some battery life may still exist, a battery is considered depleted when the tool begins to experience a notable drop in torque.

The condition of the lug nuts being removed can obviously impact battery runtime. During our testing, we make no effort to influence the type of lug nuts encountered.

Admittedly, one battery test is far from conclusive. But stay tuned… More battery runtime tests and performance updates are coming.
