Nelson Manufacturing Celebrates 75th Anniversary

OTTAWA — (Trailer Technician) – Nelson Manufacturing Co. is celebrating its 75th anniversary in business as a custom trailer manufacturer for the crane, rigging, construction, heavy haul, oversize and aerospace markets.

According to a news release from the company, Nelson Manufacturing was founded in 1947 by Jack and Virginia Nelson, focusing exclusively on lowboy trailers for the construction industry. This led to the development of the Ottawa Lowboy, which was the workhorse construction equipment trailer in the region for many years. Since then, Nelson Manufacturing has become an industry leader in the engineering and manufacturing of custom-made, specialty semi-trailers, boom dollies and boom launch trailers, the company reports.

“The evolution of the company from building 25-ton lowboys to designing and manufacturing dual lane transporters, boom launch trailers, self-steering trailers and satellite transporters is absolutely remarkable,” Tony Niese, president of Nelson Manufacturing, wrote in the release.

“Surviving and thriving for 75 years is truly a testament of the hard-working people that worked with us in the past and those that continue to work with the Nelson team. We would not be where we are today without these individuals and our loyal customers.”
