Issue with Milwaukee’s M18 Rivet Tool – Mandrel Collector

Our First Issue with the Milwaukee M18 Rivet Tool: Damaged Mandrel Collector

The Milwaukee M18 Rivet Tool (2660-20) has earned a place as one of the shop’s go-to tools. It continues to perform flawlessly and the Technicians love not being tied to an air hose. That being said, we’ve encountered an issue with the riveter. Replacement Mandrel Collectors don’t seem to be available.

A couple months ago I purchased some replacement parts for the M18 Rivet Tool just incase they are ever needed. At the time, I mentioned that I wasn’t able to find replacements for the Mandrel Collector. Given that mandrel collectors have always proven to be a weak point on other rivet tools we’ve used, I figured it was just a matter of time until a replacement for the M18 would be needed. Sure enough… shortly after that article, the M18 Riveter was knocked out of a trailer. The only damage… the Mandrel Collector (43-72-2557).

The Mandrel Collector locks into the M18 Riveter via two tabs located on the Collector. When the riveter was dropped, one of these locking tabs broke (see above image). So while the Riveter can still be used, the spent mandrels now drop to the floor.

I have continued to search for replacement Mandrel Collectors, but so far, I’ve had no luck. I’m assuming they will eventually be available. When they are, we’ll pass that info along to you. Stay tuned…
