Protective Boot (49-16-2660B) for the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/4″ Blind Rivet Tool
Review Update
When our Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/4″ Blind Rivet Tool arrived, my first impression was that it is a well-built tool. I’m happy to report that nothing has happened to convince me otherwise. That being said, shortly after receiving the riveter I became aware that an optional Protective Boot (49-16-2660B) is available.
While it is important that our review of the M18 Riveter tests the tool’s durability, I also want to ensure that it is treated no better, or worse, than any other tool in our shop. Because shared shop tools always seem to take a beating, I would always opt for a protective boot, if it were available. So, in the interest of creating a level playing field, all future use of the M18 Riveter will be with the Protective Boot installed.
First Look
The Protective Boot for the M18 Riveter is similar in design to those made for other Milwaukee tools. It is lightweight and perfectly contoured to the shape of the tool. In addition, the boot is made of a rubber material that withstands corrosive materials that are commonly found in a shop environment.
Installing the Protective Boot (49-16-2660B)
To install the boot, simply remove the riveter’s Mandrel Collector. The boot then slides over the Nose Piece and on to the riveter’s main body. Reattach the Mandrel Collector and you’re ready to go. The entire installation will set you back about 15 seconds.
Using the Riveter with Protective Boot
Thanks to its light weight and contoured fit, adding the boot to your riveter has no impact on the tool’s operation or your ability to use it. Should you find yourself riveting in a spot where the slight increase in thickness added by the boot causes an issue, simply remove the boot. It only takes a few seconds!
Unless we see something unexpected during testing, I can’t image not equipping the riveter with the optional Protective Boot. In my opinion, the added protection, especially in a shared tool situation, is well worth the $44 price of the boot.
Let the Review Begin
Now that the riveter has been equipped with the Protective Boot, our Technicians have been given the go-ahead to use the riveter at will. Stay tuned for updates…
